hello (:
welcome to the first ever morning wood newsletter!
let’s get right into it:
a good idea
i wanted to start things off with an idea that truly changed my life:
“One of the most perilous illusions is that your real life has not yet begun, that your present existence is a mere prelude to some idyllic future. This idyll is a mirage that will fade as you approach, revealing the prelude you hurried through was in fact the one to your death.”
~ Gurwinder Bhogal
for those of you who need small words for your small brains like me, the idea is a pretty simple one:
we often fall into the trap of believing that this life we’re living right now is like a pregame before the real thing starts.
“when XYZ happens, then i’ll be happy.”
“once i earn $___, then i can ___.”
all this does is keep you fixated on a life that doesn’t yet exist, putting off the “real thing” for a someday that may never come.
the good news is, you can get around this pretty easily.
now that you’ve heard the idea, you don’t have the excuse of not knowing.
every day you don’t live as if it’s the real thing is your fault from now on.
sorry, but you’re welcome - lol.
some cool lessons
90% (!!!) of your body’s serotonin (the happy chemical) is actually formed in the gut. the connection between your gut and your brain is so strong that some nerds decided to give it a name - the gut-brain axis. i definitely want to learn more about it.
on average, Americans buy 53 new items of clothing per year - 4x as much as in the year 2000. honestly, this number isn’t as bad as i expected. but considering that it’s just an average, i wonder what the difference is between people on the high and low ends of the spectrum.
i started going on a walk first-thing in the morning recently, and it’s been a game-changer on every level. this is probably one of the easiest lifestyle changes that has so many positive downstream effects; i feel more energized, i get a chance to gather my thoughts, and for the first time in my life, i feel like a morning person. there’s also an endless list of health benefits for exercise and getting outside (touch grass bro).
some cool things
this week, i read a book called Good Energy by Calley and Casey Means. the main message i took from it is the idea that your body is just a bunch of cells interacting with each other, and giving those cells what they need to do their jobs is at the core of pretty much every aspect of your health.
i’ve been using this website, remove.bg, for a few years now. if you need to remove the background from an image, you can just copy-paste a picture into it and you’ll have the finished product ready in seconds. i can’t tell you the amount of slideshows it helped me make for school.
this guy from Kazakhstan is one of the greatest singers of all time, and you’ve probably never heard of him. just listen to the full thing and bring a change of pants for when you hear his full vocal range.
what i’m doing now
i’ve been working with people 1-on 1 to help them stop feeling stuck and start building a life they can actually feel good about.
oh, and it’s 100% free.
full transparency, once i get more interest than i can keep up with, i’ll probably end up charging something reasonable just to weed people out. but for now, it’s 100% free, and i’m only taking 5 people at a time.
if you’re interested in being one of those people, take this survey and i’ll reach out to you directly if it seems like a good fit.
other than that, thanks for getting morning wood this week! i hope you could take away something of value from it.
please consider sharing this email with a friend - it helps a lot.
see you soon!
