i left my phone + laptop at home while going to a friend’s cottage this weekend, so this is being sent out ~17 hours later than planned. oopsie daisy.

(this won’t be the norm, i promise!)

a good idea

no matter how you use it, the time will pass.

to this day, only 3 movies have ever choked me up:

  1. The Notebook

  2. Up (this clip, specifically)

  3. Inception

honourable mentions: About Time, and Before Sunrise

at first, they seem kinda unrelated. but after re-watching Inception this week, i found a common theme that i tried articulating in this text to Emma:

(text above) “i swear nothing chokes me up like this thought that our lives together are this beautiful story that we both know is going to end one day & yet we don’t care. & even better, that fact just makes it even more special”

i know, i’m a fuckin simp.

but for whatever reason, i like movies that give me a gut-punch reminder that everybody i love is gonna die one day, and so will i.

it’s depressing.

but it’s also kind of comforting, and i’ll tell you why.

they say that the Greek gods used to envy us humans, because our lives are so short and full of uncertainty that every moment is meaningful.

think about it: why would anything matter today if we knew that there would always be another tomorrow?

the fact that our lives are going to end is the thing that gives us a reason to live.

and yet, how many of you can say that you live every single moment of your life as if it was your last? i know i can’t.

we all have the same 24 hours in a day, but whether we use them well or just throw them into Zuck’s trillion dollar mind control machine; that’s on us.

so just remember, no matter how you use it, the time will pass.

how will you use your time today?

some cool lessons

  1. daylight savings time shows that sleep is more important than you think.
every year, there’s a spike in car accidents and heart attacks the day after people lose 1h of sleep. this might look like a fluke, but the opposite is true the day after people gain 1h of sleep in the fall.

  2. the youtube algorithm doesn’t trust me (yet)
i posted a video for the first time in 6 months, and despite having better metrics than my last one (300k views), it barely passed 450 views so far. the reason: consistency. youtube doesn’t trust inconsistent uploaders, so it’s only been showing my recent video to a small group of my subscribers. the minimum requirement seems to be 3+ uploads within the past 90 days, but idk for sure. either way, i’m glad i learned this, because now i have a reason to stick to my upload schedule that’s better than ‘because i should.’

some cool things

  1. the fake prince who had everyone convinced
i came across this 2018 article about a guy who convinced everybody he was a Saudi prince for like, 30 years. if his life hasn’t already been made into a movie, it should be.

  2. discover amazing art online
if you’re ever looking for some cool artwork/pictures, this digital museum is a great place to go. along the same lines, i’ve followed @moonrelated on instagram for a while now - their page is one that i still reinstall the app for.

  3. (not cool) the dark side of p*rnhub is way worse than you think
i watched this clip from Theo Von’s interview with author and sex trafficking activist, Laila Mickelwait. some of the things they discuss are pretty messed up, but it seems like Laila has already made a huge difference.

that feels like a fucked up point to end on, so here’s a picture of my little 14-year old dog, Deeks:

that’s better!

go crush this week (:
