this is Smiley:

Smiley has a problem.

there’s a thing that stays on his mind 24/7.

he started doing it when he was young, & he liked doing it.

adults even encouraged him to do it, so everybody was happy.

it began as a fun thing, but over time it became the only thing he liked to do.

eventually, it became a part of his identity.

& he spent a lot of money on it.

in fact, the only reason he works is so he has money to keep doing the thing.

now, he wakes up every day at 4:30am to do the thing, even when he doesn’t really want to.

& when he does go to bed, that thing is the last thought on his mind as he falls asleep.

he’s lost friends as a result of it.

he sacrificed his physical health to keep doing it more than he should.

he doesn’t like vacations anymore, because doing the thing is all he thinks about.

& deep down, he knows this thing has consumed his entire life.

but he can’t stop.

the thing became who he is.

if this sounds like i’m describing a drug addict, it’s because i am.

but i’m also talking about Kobe Bryant, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, or anyone who’s become the best at anything.

whoever you would define as great, i would also define as an addict.

they say that discipline is the key to success, & that addiction will ruin your life.

but maybe we’re looking at it wrong.

what if addiction & discipline are 2 sides of the same coin?

they could both fit the same definition:

‘doing the thing even though you don’t want to.’

i’ve studied the greats in every domain — sports, business, relationships, etc. — & there’s a common thread between all of them:

greatness requires discipline,

but

discipline is an addiction.

that means if greatness is something you truly want, there’s only 1 choice to make:

what thing will you get addicted to?

choose carefully.

greatness is cool but if you just want to be a little bit better every week, morning wood is a good place to start lol

some things i learned

  1. Shaan Puri’s A-B-Z rule to get things done without procrastinating
if you want to get out of your head & move forward, learn your A-B-Z’s.

A = where you are right now
Z = where you want to end up
    B = your next step

that’s it. you don’t need to know steps C—>Y yet. just have an end goal in mind, & focus on taking the next step in that direction.

this applies to so so so many things in life — use it!

  2. MIT offers nearly all of its courses for free online
basically anyone can get free access to lectures, assignments, exams, problem sets, & notes from over 2500 undergrad + grad courses across every MIT department & discipline. F.O.R.F.R.E.E!!!

the only (obvious) downside is that you won’t get the degree for free, but this is further proof of an idea i agree with:

‘the means of learning are abundant. it's the desire to learn that's scarce.’ ~ Naval

  3. i think Canadians like hockey — at least a bit
during the men’s hockey final in the 2010 Olympics, water usage across Canada was synced up with the game, as people were taking bathroom breaks during each intermission. take a look:

cool stuff i found

  1. we might genuinely be months away from reversing human aging
yes, you read that right. since reading Dr. David Sinclair’s book about aging a couple years ago, i’ve been fascinated with the research coming out of his lab at Harvard Medical School. the idea of reversing aging might sound like sci-fi clickbait, but they literally did it in animals ranging from mice to monkeys. i don’t expect you to believe me, so listen to the man explain it himself. human trials are already FDA approved, & should be happening in the coming weeks/months. unreal.

  2. one of the most unique albums i’ve ever listened to
in 1973, an Australian Catholic nun went to Singapore on a religious mission & recorded a psychedelic + indie-folk, proto-synth pop album inspired by the gospels. i don’t love it, but it’s so cool to hear a style of music unlike anything i’ve heard before.
apple music | spotify | youtube

  3. a chart showing how few people have actually used AI
1.3 billion users is a lot, but when you consider that there are still 6.8 billion other people who have never used it… it makes me think this ‘AI bubble’ everybody is talking about might be a little overblown (no pun intended lol).

sometimes i forget how far ahead my little corner of the internet has been when it comes to cutting edge tech. i was reading stuff about AI & gene therapy years ago, & it’s only just now starting to crack into the mainstream.

even though i think it’s pretty cool, i’m not saying that to brag.

i’m saying it to remind you that it really doesn’t take much to be ahead of the curve. & as every entrepreneur reading this knows, being 1 step ahead is a massive advantage in life — use it!

anyways, that’s all for this week!

i’ve been talking to a lot of you & running some polls on my YouTube channel for this program i’m gonna be offering at the end of next month (to begin April 1st).

the feedback has been super positive, & i can’t wait to share more details with you.

i was considering making it a broad ‘fix your life in 30 days’ thing, but i realized that for most people, there’s 1 main problem that’s holding them back — & i want to focus on solving it better than anyone else has.

you’ll find out what it is soon.

ouuuuu dramatic cliffhanger DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN

lol

i appreciate you for reading this, seriously. it means the world to me.

go make yourself proud this week!
