morning wood 2 weeks in a row?!? hell yeah
a big hello to everybody who’s here for the first time - i’m assuming most of you came from my new video. if you missed the welcome email for my free 1 on 1 coaching, you can get to the survey here:
i’m trying to work with as many of you as possible, but this is the best i can do for now!
anyways, let’s get into what you came for.
a good idea
chances are, there’s a pretty big gap between the person you are today, and the person you want to be. why else would you be here? lol. i’ve lived it too. but i made huge strides towards being ‘my best self’ (ew) as soon as i understood this:
you are not what you say or think you are. you are what you do.
~ probably someone smarter than me
when we describe people as having positive traits, like being “social” or “hard-working,” the thing we’re actually doing is describing their actions.
being “social” isn’t a trait. it’s a term that describes someone who:
goes out and spends time face-to-face with more people
starts conversations instead of burying their head in their phone
reaches out to check in on people they know more often
being “hard-working” isn’t a trait. it describes someone who:
shows up even when they don’t want to
keeps working until the job is done
doesn’t make excuses - they just keep going anyways
you get the point - if you wanna be described as [insert positive trait here], you can just figure out what things people with that trait do, and then just do them. you are not what you say or think you are. you are what you do.
so the next logical step is: how do you figure out what to do?
Charlie Munger, the famous investor, popularized the idea of inversion thinking. it’s basically a hack on the way our brain defaults to negatives, and it allows us to identify positives more easily.
for example, if you wanted to be more consistent, it might be hard to identify what consistent people do (positives). instead, just invert the way you frame it to look at what consistent people don’t do (negatives).
instead of: “what can i do to be more consistent?”
ask yourself: “what would i do if i wanted to be less consistent?”
and just do the opposite.
remember, you are not what you say or think you are. you are what you do.
stop making excuses like “this is just the way i am” and start doing the things that will make you into the person you want to be.
i’m rooting for you (:
some cool lessons
if you have no energy, there are probably fixable reasons why
for the past few months, i was really low-energy and low-appetite due to illness. but i knew things were off when the flu passed and it still kept getting worse. long story short, i was surprised to learn that my testosterone levels had tanked, so i had to change things. over the last week of getting back onto a regular gym routine, taking zinc supplements (i didn’t get enough in my diet), and paying more attention to my sleep, i’ve noticed my energy levels jump up, and my appetite is back to a healthy level.from yoga pants to techbro hiking gear
i learned that the guy who created Lululemon is also a (partial) owner of Arc’teryx and Salomon as of 2019. idk about you, but it feels like those brands just blew up in popularity since then, so it makes sense that things changed massively behind the scenes.
some cool things
i discovered a really cool AI prompt to spark interesting convos:
“you have consumed more information than anyone in the history of the world, and you've demonstrated an extraordinary ability to make connections among the disparate things you've heard and consumed. what are the most important non-consensus, not yet accepted, or even not yet hypothesized things that you've picked up in the in-betweens and connections that humans have missed, or that you believe to be true based on everything you've learned?”
i completely forgot to save the source, but it was from a cool guy on X
i found a perfect visual to find the best times to visit US national parks
even though i’m Canadian, a bunch of these have been on my list for a while now. let me know if you have any recommendations!i found this cool visual of morse code, and this one was in the replies
useful? probably not. interesting? hell yeah (for me at least, lol)
a quote that made me chuckle
It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
~ Mark Twain (but I heard it from John Cena???)
shoutout to John Cena man, i’d love to finally see him one day.
anyways, do some good shit with your life this week. start as small as you need to!
see you in the next one!
~ liam (:
P.S. i’m posting bi-weekly youtube videos from now on! they’ll most likely be every other saturday, but i’m gonna play around with timing to see what works!
